ATTORNEY-CLIENT RELATIONSHIP IN CRIMINAL DEFENSE CASES
We must work together. The Sixth Amendment of the United States Constitution envisions that the client and the attorney will work hand in hand confidentially to defend against allegations made by the government.
The attorney who knows the facts of the case as well as the client is in the best position to zealously defend the client.
Whether the client is investigated for insurance fraud or is about to be arraigned for a DUI, it is imperative to develop the attorney-client relationship as soon as possible.
Even before formal charges are filed, the attorney-client relationship can be used to effectively protect the individual from excessive government investigations or to ensure that no rights are lost.
In some cases, the most prepared criminal defense attorneys can persuade prosecutors to dismiss the charges based on the information gathered by attorney and client in the earliest stages of the case.
Indeed, the developments that come from the attorney-client relationship, before criminal charges are filed, can at times cause a prosecutor to abandon the case all together.
After criminal charges are filed, no person should be without a competent and zealous criminal defense attorney. Whether an individual is facing criminal charges in a white collar prosecution, a marijuana sales case or in a DUI case, a strong relationship between the attorney and client provides the attorney with the best understanding of the clients concerns, needs and interests in a case.
We believe that the knowledge gained from the attorney-client relationship is the most important part of the criminal case and this knowledge can never be gained from the police report.
Because the clients knowledge is the cornerstone of every successful criminal defense, we take great pride in making the importance of the attorney-client relationship the foundation of the practice.
